BigEars says : Troy Caldwell axeman with the Marshall Tucker Band
- check it.
TitBit : I've often been criticized myself for not using a pick when
playing my Strat .
I feel more in touch fingering my strings.
Along with Lyndsey Buckingham , Caldwell = some sort of affirmation.

Big Ears says : Been gettin' blown round the nooks & crannies of
the quake zone
of our fine capital city - Wellywood.
Always known for it's brass soundz & strong Ska influencers.
A wind instrument after all I guess - has to be some sort of
synchronicity there.
Managed to catch some of the cities college bands bending their jazz
chops recently.
Impressive ! The legacy is in safe hands.

Big Ears says : Good to see the live music scene crawling back from the
abyss
that is COVID.
Caught the Jordan Luck circus recently.Good times roll for the ageing
hipsters of yester year.
Worth a ticket - he's still got it .Great to see him nodding to the
past with tributes to Chris Sheehan
one of the exponents great guitarists and a few anecdotes about their
tracks.
Really tight rythm section & any guitarist is always going to be
compared to some kiwi greats
that Luck has always hung his boots on.Big shadow to step out from.
The crowd revelled hanging on every note.

Only if you are
lonely

t.L.i.P. Margaret Urllich - Kiwi icon residing across the ditch.
Never really sounding the radar to my own musical tastes - a little too
polished a sound.
Track down an old NZ on air doco put together by Karen Haye featuring
kiwi female musos.
Really warm section featuring Margaret round a piano @ a music school
she was a tutor/mentor @

Boy inthe Moon

t.L.I.P. Christine McVie - Keys/ vocal Macster.
TitBit : Always a bit eerie when u have just been talking about someone
& the news
breaks they have passed.
Performing in the shadow of the witchy , school boy wet dream with the
locks & tambourine
one could easily be forgiven for overlooking the songbird that found
someone that
made lovin' fun.
Always drawn to her vocal signature which led me to Chicken Shack.
Sad to hear as with so many aging vocalists that she had lost the touch.
They have to put in a real effort to maintain their pipes if they wish
to remain
relevant.
Along with Peter Green & Buckingham she stands out as a Fleetwood
/McVie high five.
SongBird

t.L.I.P. Jeff Beck - Ace axeman.Passes
TitBit : The whammy bar kid.Line his pal Rod Stewart ,Ronnie Wood &
him up alongside eachother
& I would lay money down they were tipping up the the same
hairdresser up during the sixties.
What is that cut ? - little red rooster.
Caught him live twice - once as a pimple face jack during the Blow By
Blow tour then 40 years
later on the Commotion tour-each remarkably reserved affairs.
The latter a mid afternoon slot on a second stage at the West Palm
Beach sunfestival
and initially an audience of stunned mullet at the State Opera house in
Wellington featuring
Jan Hammer on Keys.( infamous for the score on Beverlly Hills Cop )
Wore the grooves out of 2016 s Loud Hailer.
Finally the addition of vocals?????
Ronnie Scotts
Beck & Depp
interview - the final bow

t.L.I.P. David Crosby champion of that 60's/early 70's folk rock era.
TitBit : That whole 3& 4 part harmony thing didn't really move the
needle for me at the time.
Completely missed he had been a Byrd only knew him as an x Buffalo.
The latter infamous for their Johnny Carson appearance - for what it's
worth.

t.L.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot May day passing of a Canadian folky.
Slipping off the porch to the other side in a final sundown.
Sundown

New releases :

Dolphinz -August
First material worked on in my hometown.Almost on an annual basis
a huge
pod of dolphins will enter the relative tranquility of the harbour for
a while then leave.
I have also had the humbling experience of windsurfing amongst them.
With the water boiling from
their activity , expecting to be knocked from my board at any moment ,
of course they had the
dexterity to avoid colliding with me. The ditch Evans Bay.
Their sense of community inspiring ; their nomadic lifestyle
enviable.
Always Movin' On.

theDear Lady - September
Life & interdependance - a leaf in a stream.

Daddy - O - September
The street corner where a fella I didn't know yelled this phrase out to
me by way of a
greeting. Potters Cay - Nassau - New Providence island Bahamas.

New material in the final mixing stages - theGarden - we gotz to get
back there.
Look for an October release.

Big I says : BBC series Our Planet II episode 3 The next generation

TitBit : Inspiration for 2B Plant aTree - coming out of lockdown my
first gig
for the summer based out of Te Anau.
3 weeks - dawn till dusk for this 3 mins of footage.
Now that's dedication.

BigEars says : Caught the Jordan Luck Band live once again recently on
their return
visit to Wellywood.
Edgy sound with a couple of polished covers - Dragon's April Sun in
Cuba a stand out.
Great lighting.
Once again worth the ticket price if you find them in your neck of the
woods
Live music is where it is at.

BigEars says : star/Time - put them on your radar.
TitBit : Caught these guys performing at a local watering hole as part
of a Jazz Fest.
Tight rhythm section embellished with horns . High energy
Melbourne
groovesters
Well worth any effort for a ticket.!!

NewMaterial : World of Hurt
15 th December release on all major platforms.

t.L.I.P. : Shane now poguin' his way to the other side.
TitBit : No more heroes - of sorts - no doubt ripping with his mate Joe
Strummer
The pogues only get thrashed in my household during the period
for the carpenter.
A timely demise for New York Fairytale to hit the top of the
charts in some sort of
perverted commercial irony.
I'll definitely have a few drams for the lad and salute London SW and
anyone privileged
enuff to catch the lads at any of the numerous St Patrick's Day
festivities
In the late eighties @ the Brixton Academy SW 1
Life's elixir to be sure.

FairyTale in New
York

BigEars Says : New material from Robin Trower - Joyful Sky
Well worth a spin .With Bassist/Vocalist Dewar just over it
Featured guest female vocalist fills the shoes nicely !!
MyBad : Shocked to learn Dewar is actually deceased t.L.I.P. -
assumption the
mother of all F/Ups ; last time I caught Trower without Dewar at his
side he explained
that he was having trouble convincing him to go out on the road
anymore. Had no idea
how tongue in cheek that was.He was doing the vocals himself.
Joyful Sky

NewMaterial : Cupids Crueljoke release in the New Year 5th Jan
to all major platforms.
BigEars Says: the Mermaidens - do youreslf a huge favour &
catch them
at a gig now in a small intimate venue before you will need to be
paying triple the price
along with a set of field binnoculars to see them at all in a
stadium.Yet another band
whose presence and onstage energy doesn't make it into the studio.
I was blown away last night !

SourLips
BigEars Says : Ruthie Foster cover of War Pigs - the Sabbath anthem
Polished performance.
Appropriate for the times.
Link

BigEars Says : Upcoming new material from Sheryl Crow - Evolution a
March release..
TitBit : Often find myself having to check myself to make sure I don't
have some sort of
unhealthy obsession with this artist after an unusual experience at one
of her
gigs in the Bahamas many moons ago.. Sais la vie .
Track down the pre release of Evolution the single on your music service
Out Now !
And yes that is Morrello lending a hand & as a footnote of
happenstance they
were bothe inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.
Evolution

Them Dragon fellas
BigEars Says : Rang in the New Year with some real kiwiana
Hello Sailor - Dragon - Feelers on one bill.
TitBit : WhatsUp with Downunder aging acts & their vocalists
pushing up daisies.
the Angels , Mi Sex ,INXS ,Hello Sailor , Dragon , AC/DC - if you are
true blue
probably a host more .
Keep an eye out for Dragon & Hello Sailor takin' it to the streets
in April.
Well worth a trip down memory lane the only niggle I would have is that
the Sailor boys need to do a bit more work on Gutter Black.A nod to Dave
wouldn't go amiss either with a Flamingo cover - Virginia.
Braziers legacy in good hands though.

The snivler himself
BigEars Says : New material from Kula Shaker after a 25 year hiatus
also the Gallagher
Squire collaboration would suggest 24 may see the Phoenix arise on that
BritPop thang.
But not to worry folks here come the Crowes with new material to remind
you
dirty skanky ROCK n ROLL rules !! Link - waiting
& wanting
TitBit : K still resonates to this day - hard to think it was a mid-
eighties release.
The departure of their keyboardist to become part of the Oasis wave
didn't
help their cause any ; now a reunited unit should produce the goods.
As for the Oasis/Stone Roses love affair - a certain inevitability no
matter how you look at it.
Mars to Liverpool
BigEars Says : Get your Foo on & track down an older than
dirt acoustic performance of
Everlong ; watermarked as a veed.10.
TitBit : As the Foo Fighters close out their Australasian tour sweeping
the nation Grohl & the boys seem to have navigated the
inevitable
Foo fatigue associated with continued success.
Long may you Roll.
Rick Beatos take

Humble as Dave - spent his super bowl 24 feeding the less fortunate .
BigEars says : Pacifica reggae is where it's at- check it .

Word tothe Wise
Parrotheads : Jimmy Buffet fans abound throughout the Conch republic .
In a similar vein to maoridim it's a Tude ( attitude )
Jimmy the president now residing in another plane looking over us all.
